Cross Roads
The Cross Roads group at Myton Church exists to serve adults with learning disabilities. About 2% of the population falls into this category. We believe that everyone has the right to access church, and these often vulnerable adults need their own worship service which they are able to understand and take part in.
We meet every second Sunday afternoon of the month at 3pm in the Church Centre. Of course our guests are welcome to attend any other church service they may wish. People join us from several local residential homes, and we also have members who live with their parents. All our leaders have enhanced CRB clearance to work with vulnerable adults, and we undertake regular training.
We have been running for almost three years now, and have organised summer BBQs and Christmas parties plus trips to other churches with similar groups. An average of nine guests come along each month with or without carers, as they are able. Our regular programme includes crafts, drama, Bible teaching, singing, prayers and refreshments. We make no charge.
Cross Roads is affiliated with a nationwide charity called Causeway Prospects, a Christian organisation set up thirty years ago to serve people with learning difficulties. As well as Causeway Prospects, which encourages the setting up of special worship meetings, there is another branch of Prospects called Living Prospects which sets up homes for people with learning difficulties and provides support for those who are able to live in their own homes. It thus does work which otherwise would be done by the local Social Services, but its workers are Christians who consider peoples’ spiritual as well as their practical needs. For more details visit Causeway Prospects, and please do get in touch if you would like more details of our work at Myton Church.
